About Altrusa International of Laconia

ALTRUSA OF LACONIA is an enthusiastic group of individuals of all ages, businesses and professions.  We have a proud history of community service in the Lakes Region area, and we strive for projects that will help us make a difference.

The Laconia club of District One* was organized in 1946 and was chartered in 1947 under the direction of our first president, Rose Emery.

REQUEST A DONATION FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION: In order to best meet the needs of the community, while ensuring the mission of Altrusa is met, we require all donation requests be submitted via mail or email. Please note: donation requests must be received at least 45 days in advance of the needed funds and the deadline for submission is April 1 of each year.

ALTRUSA INTERNATIONAL INC.  - Founded in 1917, Altrusa was the first national service organization of business and professional women.  (Visit our “Club Info” to view some notable Altrusans.)  In 1935 Altrusa became international with extension into Mexico.  Today, we are worldwide with 14 districts encompassing 19 countries and membership of close to 15,000.  Altrusa has been associated with the United Nations since 1946 and is a member of the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO).

ALTRUSA LACONIA SCHOLARSHIPS - Altrusa offers scholarships in the following categories:

  • Dr. Alice Normandin Scholarship is for a woman pursuing a career in the health field

  • Katherine Daigneault Scholarship is for a woman pursuing a career in the business field

  • Rose Emery Scholarship  is for a woman pursuing a career in the education field

  • Adrienne Stevens –Margaret “Peg” Normandin Athletic Scholarship is for women who have participated in the extra-curricular Athletic Program at Laconia High School who are continuing their education in a degree program

Applications must be received by May 1st for consideration.


MEETINGS - Altrusa of Laconia meets Sept - June as follows:

Business Meeting: Monthly meeting will be held at Taylor Community, Woodside Bldg. @ 5:30 2nd Tuesday of the month. Programs to follow when scheduled.
